Join a club. This is the fastest way to learn how to use your camera or increase your camera skills.

While not all clubs are the same and you should shop around as in most clubs you’ll be as welcome as the flowers in spring regardless of whether you’re brand new and don’t know a thing or a weathered old pro who thinks they know it all (don’t ask if that’s me LOL).

Clubs do outings like this recent event by my club the Oakville Camera Club. We were teaching and practicing how to do double exposures (again this is why you must read your manual) and set the camera up to do slow exposures that will create artistic blurring of the image.

Clubs are so much more than just photography. You will find new friends and if the club has a teaching program you’ll everything you need to know about photography often included in the price of the membership. Most clubs also have a monthly speaker meeting where experts come to share and entertain.

Our club also holds a club-wide competition called Capture Oakville where we hold an awards night in a local gallery. This prestigious event on the club calendar sees hundreds of visitors attend to view the framed images on display.

If you’re sitting at home wondering how to improve your photography join your local club and get involved right away.
