Why Buy A Printer?

With a local camera dealership (Henry’s) offering almost 50% off their PIXMA iP8720 photo printer now is the time to get into printing your images.

But wait you might say. Why do I want a printer? Aren’t they expensive and hard to get right?

Well the Henry’s sales is putting a printer in your hands for about what it would cost to buy inks for any other photo printer and way below what it would cost ($800 or more) to full load a pro-level printer.

Okay so look at it this way. If you had a commercial printer do five 13″ X 19″ colour prints for you at $50 a print, you’d have spent more for the cost of the Canon printer plus shipping!

But still why print?

After you’ve shot your images and culled and graded them and then worked on them in your raw editor isn’t it a little disappointing that the only way you have to show them around is by looking at little images on your smartphone?

Printing an image even on a digital printer (as opposed to running your own darkroom with an enlarger) is the end of the photographic process. It’s a way to display your best images at home on your walls or in a display portfolio.

So while the Canon PIXMA iP8720 is an enthusiast’s level printer it’s still plenty good enough to print images for yourself and your friends and family. It’s good enough in almost all cases to print an image good enough to enter into photography contests.

And, again, there’s that nearly 50% off which when you think about it is cheaper than about anything else we can buy to support our wonderful hobby 🙂
