According to Wikipedia: Photography is the art, application, and practice of creating images by recording light, either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film.

Notice photography isn’t gear. Gear is gear. If you want answers that are all about gear to go FaceBook and ask a question about photography and you’ll get a whole bunch of comments that are about what gear you should buy to magically become a better photographer.
Photography isn’t about snapshots. That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with snapshots and snapshots of the kids, the dog, the family and the vacation are precious memories but they aren’t really photograpy.
Photography is about light.
Great photography has been done using pin-hole cameras. Sally Mann, once called one of the best photographers working in America, uses technology that was popular back in the days of the Civil War.
Yes there are some forms of photography like shooting sports or birds or astrophotography where gear becomes more important but great images of all these and other technologically challening photography have been done with modern cellphone cameras.
And yes you can shoot great photographic images using you cell phone. Why? Because great art (or for that matter even bad art) isn’t about the gear.
