Where Is Your Photography Going?

Are you tired of just posting on Facebook or some other social media site? Ever thought about creating a connection with your bigger community?

In Oakville, Ontario the Oakville Camera Club holds an annual competition and gala called Capture Oakville. It’s supported by the municipal government and takes place at one of the Town’s premier recreational facilities. After the night of the gala all of the images from the competition are put on display in the center for public viewing.

But after watching this excellent video by Paulie B of New York Street photographer Cisco Vasquez I wonder if we couldn’t be doing more to directly engage with our greater community? Our club is blessed to have many members who are very talented photographers but aside from their fellow club members, who sees their work?

I do have my own private online gallery (www.streetshooters.ca) and an online blog (www.streetshooters.blog) but it’s not the same as a display of printed work. I’m currently printing out my best images from 20,000 frames shot this spring of birds in Costa Rica but who is going to see these very colorful shots if they end up on my basement walls? I think we can do something amazing if we think about it.

Start by watching this thought-provoking video. More to come….
