DXO Noise Reduction

There’s been a lot of talk about noise reduction software at The Oakville Camera Club. This has come about as the club’s very active “Outings” group has been busy shooting birds during this exceptionally cold winter here in Ontario.

Little birds at feeders or big birds flying in formations over are all challenges for any photographers as often we rely on high shutter speeds (often in shutter priority to stop as much movement as possible) with long heavy lenses with wide-open apertures and ISOs on auto that can range up into rediculously high numbers resulting in noisy images.

That’s where noise reduction software like DXO Pure RAW and others including some good apps in Lightroom come into play.

Adding noise reduction is actually pretty easy to do but there is a downside and that’s adding too much of a good thing.

I chanced up Matt Kloskowski a top-notch professional photographer and long-time teacher of Lightroom and Photoshop (I think I took one of his in-person workshops years ago) who has posted an easy to understand Facebook video on why he changed his noise reduction workflow to DXO Pure RAW and how to apply it correctly.

In this video Matt walks you though why and how to reduce noise in your images and it’s well worth watcing.
