A newcomer to bird photography asked on Facebook why her photos of birds shot with an Olympus OM-3 and the enthusiast-level 75-300mm (150 – 600mm in 35mm terms) were not sharp.

I offered her several suggestions about getting closer and how the inexpensive 75-300mm lens wasn’t going to be tack sharp shot with a wide open aperture or at its fullest magnification.
But I missed several other important aspects of why we get unsharp photos even when using the very top-of-the-line full-frame gear and the most expensive and fastest lenses possible.
And the answers I missed had a lot to do with both the quality of the light and turbulance and heat haze.
Simon d’Entremont in his YouTube video How to get TACK SHARP photos with any camera has a lot of solutions to overcoming these harsh conditions.
If you’re interested in getting sharper photos, this is a must-view video.
