There is a madness and a method to doing photo walks. Marion and I were taking an “artist’s date” (see the post about Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way) to visit the Royal Ontario Museum. We were walking quickly in the cold and blustery morning I chanced to look up to see this reflection.
Whether or not it’s great art is of course debatable but I like it and that’s all the counts.
But here’s the point:
I would never had seen the image if I wasn’t looking for it. That’s the secret of photo walks. It’s to take time to put yourself into the “zone”. And it’s to have no preconceptions about what works and what doesn’t work and it helps to slow down your walk no matter how cold it is LOL.
You are going to be hard pressed to find another photographer who can turn an ordinary walk through a small unphotogenic town and turn his images into art.
Now stay with the 33-minute video. Let your mind wander as you follow Tyler and listen to his description of what he’s doing. Think on this for a bit. Isn’t your town a lot like this small town? Couldn’t you find photos in your own backyard if you only took the time to wander?
