Why Is So Much Street Photography Just Crap?

Have you noticed that so much of so-called street photography posted on photography websites on Facebook and Instagram is just vacuous crap?

Sure it’s exposed correctly and edited nicely and I’m sure 75% of it at least was shot with a $3,000 to $5,000 vintage Leica (or a $10,000 new one) but the posted image remains just awful.

Why is this true?

According to our friend Tatiana Hooper it’s because we maybe unconsciously trying to reproduce images from other photographers who over the decades have reproduced their images in books and magazines and now online.

It’s not that we’re trying to copy those iconic images it’s more that we see things before us that remind us of what someone else shot and we try to capture (The word “capture” when it comes to photography irks me no end but that’s a different post.).
